TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- A senior Iranian lawmaker in a meeting with the German ambassador to Tehran here on Sunday expressed the hope that Europe, particularly Germany, would continue their policy of multilateralism in the international arena.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral ties and further explored avenues for developing Iran-Germany relations.
The member of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Elham Amin-zadeh noted the two countries’ cultural and historical commonalities, and said, “Iran and Germany enjoy such a rich historical background and schools of thought that they have influenced their regions and played a significant role in the growth and exaltation of the ideas and thoughts of their own respective regions.”
She further voiced Iran’s preparedness to engage in regional cooperation with Germany and hoped that Germany, and EU in general, would continue their policy of multilateralism in the world arena.
“The two countries’ cooperation in Afghanistan showed that Iran and Germany enjoy high potentials for cooperation in regional issues, including the reconstruction of Iraq where Iran and Germany can work with each other in the form of a multilateral cooperation,” the MP mentioned.
For his part, German Ambassador to Tehran Herbert Honzovit stressed the need for the expansion of mutual ties, and further called for joint cooperation by Iran and Germany in all areas, regional and international issues in particular.
