Romania and Bulgaria’s Schengen entry postponed at least until October

Germany and France have succeeded in their attempts to freeze Bulgaria and Romania’s Schengen Area accession. According to Hungary’s EU Presidency the two countries will not join the border-free zone in March 2011, as previously planned, and most probably their entry will be postponed until October.

On Wednesday Hungary’s Interior Minister Sandor Pinter said that the requirements Bulgaria and Romania had to meet to join Schengen would be revealed by June.
“The deadline of March 2011 is not on the agenda any longer,” said an EU diplomatic source.
