Bulgaria and Romania have met the necessary technical and legal criteria to join the Schengen area and their accession should be no longer postponed. This is the common opinion of the MEPs during the Tuesday debate in Strasbourg.
There is a need to avoid double standards, the MEPs said, adding that there are no grounds for the Bulgarian and Romanian citizens to be left outside the border-free zone, the press office of the European Parliament (EP) informed.
The report on the two countries’ readiness to join Schengen will be voted on Wednesday, June 8.
