Major conference in Sarajevo about Western Balkans progress

A major conference on the Western Balkans has gotten underway in Sarajevo, focusing on efforts to move the region forward.

The conference “The Western Balkans: Progress, Stagnation or Regression” opened on Sunday, organised by the SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations at the Johns Hopkins University and the Bosnian-American Foundation.

The gathering, which will continue until June 15, brings together nearly 200 participants from the United States and Europe, including members of civil society, academia and political groups.

Top state officials from the region, including Montenegrin Prime Minister Igor Luksic and Kosovo Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj, will also be in attendance.

Organisers and participants have called the event one of the most important theoretical and political conferences in Bosnia since the end of the war.
