Croatia happy about Hadzic arrest

Croatia’s Prime Minster Jadranka Kosor on Wednesday hailed the arrest of fugitive Goran Hadzic, accused over massacres and deportations in her country during its 1991-1995 war of independence.

“The arrest of Hadzic is good news for humanity, for the world and above all for Croatia,” Kosor told reporters during a visit to Poland. However, she said, it had taken two decades to capture the former leader of Croatia’s rebel Serbs, who opposed its split from Yugoslavia.

“Croatia is this year marking the 20th anniversary of its independence, while the city of Vukovar is commemorating the 20th anniversary of the entry of foreign troops. Many of the victims’ relatives will therefore not have lived to see Hadzic’s arrest,” she said.
