Mladic given six days to answer demand to split indictment

Wartime Bosnian Serb commander general Ratko Mandic was given six days by the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia on Thursday to answer prosecution’s demand to split his indictment in order to speed up the trial.

Mladic, 68, has been indicted on eleven counts of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed by the forces under his command during Bosnia’s 1992-1995 war.

The indictment centers on the massacre of some 8,000 Muslims in eastern town of Srebrenica in July 1995, the 44-month siege and shelling of the capital Sarajevo and other crimes.
