Montenegro: Opposition leaders want to boycott the parliament

Montenegro’s opposition is seriously considering walking out of the national parliament and local assemblies if an agreement is not reached on the status of the Serbian language in the country’s education system.

The opposition is considering the boycott as a solution if agreement is not reached quickly on the status of the Serbian language in Montenegrin schools.

The walkout would take place after 2 September, when a parliamentary debate on amendments to the Law on General Education is due to be held.

The New Serbian Democracy party is the biggest proponent of the boycott, while the Movement for Change is continuing to seek a way out of the situation and, accordingly, will offer a new alternative to the government and fellow opposition members.

The Montenegrin PM and opposition leaders failed to reach agreement on the status of the Serbian language in the educational system of Montenegro after a fourth meeting yesterday.
