EU urges Kosovo to continue dialogue with Serbia

The president of the European Council, Herman Van Rompey has encouraged Kosovo’s President Atifete Jahjaga to continue in its dialogue with Serbia.

Van Rompey said on Tuesday that dialogue needed to continue between the two countries to help make progress on remaining issues.

He indicated that the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia on customs stamps was an important one which could result in the removal of the trade embargo on Serbian goods that has been in place since July 25.

Van Rompey also said that the EU facilitated dialogue produces benefits for the countries with the aim of bringing both sides closer to EU.

“Let me first reiterate that all 27 Member States are committed to the European perspective of the Western Balkans as a whole,” Van Rompey said in a public statement.

“It is my sincere hope that there can be good progress soon, for example on the start of the visa dialogue,” he said.
