A lawyer says a former senior Bosnian Serb official sought by both Bosnia and Croatia for alleged war crimes has fled to Bosnia while awaiting extradition.
Lawyer Svetozar Vujacic said Sunday that Bozidar Vucurevic wants to be tried in Bosnia, and has gone to his native Trebinje, where he was the wartime mayor.
Vucurevic was arrested in April on a warrant from Croatia, which accuses him of the shelling of the ancient city of Dubrovnik during the 1991-95 war. Bosnia, meanwhile, has said it wants to try Vucurevic for atrocities in Trebinje.
A Serbian court has allowed Vucurevic to remain free until it decides where to extradite him. Police say they were not keeping Vucurevic under surveillance, and cannot confirm the escape.
