Bulgaria says it will work to change the position of Finland and the Netherlands

Bulgaria will try to persuade the Netherlands and Finland to change their opposition to Bulgaria and Romania’s accession to the Schengen visa zone, Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov told Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) on September 22 2011.

Tsvetanov’s statement came shortly after EU justice and home affairs ministers delayed their decision on Bulgaria and Romania’s Schengen entry.

“It is most important in coming days to make maximum efforts to present to the Dutch and the Finnish governments and their parliaments the additional information required,” Tsvetanov said.

According to the minister, any decision “should be taken on the basis of consensus and pragmatism”.
