The EC will recommend a date for the start of Serbia’s accession talks “as soon as it reaches agreements with Priština on energy and telecommunications”.
This was heard from EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule, who spoke a day after the EU granted Serbia the status of candidate for membership, but without giving the country a date for the start of accession talks.
“Recognizing Kosovo” would not be a condition for Serbia’s membership in the EU, he continued, and added that “nobody plans to make that condition”.
“We have talked about the normalization of relations from the beginning and we are happy that Belgrade and Priština are moving in that direction,” said he.
