Accordint to the first half year report on Schengen activity for Romania and Bulgaria, the European Commission said it is ready to pass any measure that might be requested to ensure that the Council on Justice and Home Affairs will take a positive decision in September.
”Even though, in June 2011, the Council concluded that both Romania and Bulgaria officially met in full criteria for the Schengen acquis, a decision could not be taken on lifting controls on international boundaries with these countries. On March 2, 2012 the European Council asked the Council (JHA – editor’s note) to identify and implement measures that would help extend successfully the Schengen space by including Romania and Bulgaria and to resume this issue in September 2012 when JHA Council is expected to adopt a decision. The European Commission is ready to back up any measure that might be requested to ensure the Council (JHA – editor’s note) will take a positive decision in September”, the EC report notes, which analyses the Schengen activity in the period November 1, 2011 – April 30, 2012.
