Romania’s Foreign Minister opens his country’s consulate in ErbilThe Romanian Foreign Minister, Titus Corlăţean has opened his country’s consulate in Erbil, the capital city of Kurdistan region, in the presence of Erbil’s Governor, Nawzad Hadi and the President of the Presidium of the Kurdistan region, Fouad Hussein.
Corlăţean has said, in a news conference during the opening ceremony that “Romania is keen to strengthen relations with Iraq, and this consulate will have a significant role in strengthening the relations between Romania and Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.”
For his part, the governor of Erbil has welcomed the opening of the consulate saying “The Kurdistan region is open to all countries, and seeks to develop its relations with Romania in order to achieve the common interests.”
The Romanian Foreign Minister arrived to Erbil, Sunday evening, coming from Sulaimaniyah city, where he met with president Jalal Talabani.
Head of the Kurdish Divan Fouad Hussein stated that opening this consulate is to develop relations with the Romanian government.
Since 1991, the Kurds of Iraq achieved self-rule in part of the country. Today’s teenagers are the first generation to grow up under Kurdish rule. In the new Iraqi Constitution, it is referred to as Kurdistan region. Kurdistan region has all the trappings of an independent state — its own constitution, its own parliament, its own flag,www.ekurd.net its own army, its own border, its own border patrol, its own national anthem, its own education system, its own International airports, even its own stamp inked into the passports of visitors.
