NATO praises Montenegro’s aspirations towards the alliance

At Tuesday’s meeting of North Atlantic Council in Brussels, NATO welcomed Montenegro’s aspirations towards the membership and encouraged the country to continue reforms.

Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Secretary General of NATO, described the meeting with Milo Djukanovic, the Montenegrin Prime Minister, as “very good”.

“More reforms in the defence sector are critical, but Montenegro is moving in the right direction,” he tweeted after the meeting, describing Montenegro as an important potential partner.

The government of Montenegro stated that Djukanovic had stressed Montenegro’s full commitment to pursuing reforms in order to be ready for the next NATO summit dealing with enlargement.

“The completion of the process of creating a secure and united Europe is the ultimate goal, and the Western Balkan’s integration is a step towards that goal. Integration is a guarantee of a secure, stable and prosperous region,” it reported Djukanovic as having said.
