Serbia and Macedonia discuss EU perspective

The parliament speakers of Serbia and Macedonia, Nebojša Stefanović and Trajko Veljanoski, say that their countries have met “all the conditions for EU entry”.

The two officials, who met in Belgrade on Monday, concluded that Serbia and Macedonia both “thus deserved to get a starting date for EU accession talks in June.”

“Both countries hope and expect that the achieved standards, the met Copenhagen criteria and the European Council’s recommendation are enough to get a starting date for EU entry talks in June,” Stefanović told reporters.

Stefanović and Veljanoski agreed that cooperation between the two parliaments is satisfactory, but there is still room for expansion, and in that sense underlined the formation of a group of friendship that would start operating immediately.

They underlined that the cooperation between Serbia and Macedonia has regional importance.
