UN agrees new peacekeeping mission in Mali

imgUN Security Council decided to send a peacekeeping force to settle stability in Mali.

The new Mission, with an initial mandate of 12 months, will have 11,200 military personnel and 1,440 police personnel, including former AFISMA military and police personnel.

MINUSMA will be authorized to use “all necessary means” to carry out some aspects of its mandate which includes supporting the reestablishment of state authority throughout the country, protecting civilians and UN personnel, promoting and protecting human rights, and supporting humanitarian assistance, cultural preservation and national and international justice.
