EU says dialogue is the answer to end Turkey protests

EU foreign policy supremo Catherine Ashton condemned police violence in Turkey as anti-government protests in dozens of cities there entered a fourth day Monday.

A statement issued by her office Sunday said she had “expressed deep concern at the violence that occurred in Istanbul and some other cities in Turkey, and regrets disproportionate use of force by members of the Turkish police.”

She wished all those injured “a speedy recovery”, it continued.

Calling for restraint on both sides and an end to the violence, Ashton added: “Dialogue should be opened to find a peaceful solution to this issue.”
