Turkish PM says Geneva meeting will not have expected results if Syrian opposition is excluded

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that the US-Russia led Syria peace conference in Geneva, which is planned for June but likely to be pushed back to July, is bound to fail if the Syrian opposition is excluded from the talks.

Erdoğan’s remarks on the Syrian crisis came during a joint press conference with his Moroccan counterpart, Abdelilah Benkirane, on Monday.

“We hope that the Geneva II talks, in collaboration and solidarity with all the relevant countries, will make a positive contribution to the developments in Syria,” said Erdoğan, adding that the involvement of the Syrian opposition in the Geneva process is essential.
