Egyptian President rejects ultimatum

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has rejected an ultimatum set by the country’s army to reach an agreement with his opponents to end the political crisis.

The Egyptian military on Monday gave 48 hours, demanding that a solution be reached on the political crisis that has taken millions of people to the streets, and thus fulfill the “will of the people.”

“Egypt will absolutely not permit any step backward whatever the circumstances,” a statement from the president said, stressing that he was “the guarantor of national reconciliation and social peace.”

The Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, from which Morsi and the political wing represented by the ruling party hail, this morning announced that it was “considering” the ultimatum of the military.
