President Calls on Regional States to Help Restore Afghanistan’s Security

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed the need for all regional countries to help restore stability and security in Afghanistan as fast as possible. According to a report released by the Presidential Press Office, Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta, where he described further expansion of ties among regional states as serving the interests of the regional nations.

“Similar to the last 30 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran will accompany the Afghan nation,” he said, and further voiced Tehran’s preparedness to transfer its experiences and show enhanced cooperation to pave the way for increased might of the government, promote regional security and accelerate development, welfare and prosperity of the Afghan nation.

The Iranian president described the Afghan nation as a faithful, industrious and tireless people with rich traditions, customs and culture.

Noting the two nations’ profound, sentimental, idealistic and historical bonds, he stated Iran’s readiness to assist the Afghan government along the path to development, full establishment of security and settlement of problems.

He also pointed out that enemies view the cordial and brotherly ties of regional countries as a factor detrimental to their interests, and continued, “Thus, they foment insecurities and widen instability.”

“Regional countries should rapidly provide assistance for the restoration of peace, stability and security in the regional states, including Afghanistan, through cooperation and development of relations,” Ahmadinejad continued.

For his part, the Afghan foreign minister appreciated Iran’s vital and durable aids to his nation and government in the different sectors, including road and railroad construction, and expressed the hope that his country could overcome problems through bolstering mutual cooperation with Iran in such areas as the campaign against illicit drugs, considering Iran’s successful experience in fighting against drug trafficking.

Rangin Dadfar Spanta renewed his president’s invitation to the Iranian president for visiting Afghanistan, and stressed his country’s resolve to increasingly expand Tehran-Kabul ties despite all the opposition shown by certain western states, reasoning that further expansion of relations and boosting of cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran leaves huge positive effects on the establishment of peace and stability as well as the progress and prosperity of Afghanistan.
