Pakistan PM, Army chief discuss solution to political crisis

Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif agreed Thursday on measures to resume the stalled negotiations, aimed at resolving the political crisis.

Leaders of the opposition Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr. Tahirul Qadri and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Imran Khan have announced that COAS has been appointed by PM Sharif as mediator and guarantor for the current crisis between the government and protesters in Islamabad. The political parties announced that they have given the prime minister 24 hours upon Gen Sharif’s assurances after their dialogues with the government entered a blind alley yesterday.

PAT and PTI have been staging a mass protest sit-in over the last ten days in front of the parliament in Islamabad against the alleged rigging in 2013 general elections.
