Seven militants killed in Sinai during military raid

At least seven militants were killed and six others injured during a military raid in the restive Sinai province of Egypt, a security source said.

The raid was launched after a militant attack left 11 policemen dead in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Sinai’s Sheikh Zuwayed region yesterday, the source added.

The source said that the army has also arrested 11 suspects and destroyed 16 vehicles, 22 motorcycles and 35 houses and shelters belonging to terrorists.

The militant attacks targeting police and military has increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi last year. Many policemen and soldiers have been killed in the attacks.

In July, militants attacked a military checkpoint in Al-Wadi Al-Gedid governorate in southern Egypt, killing 21 Egyptian border guards and injuring four others.
