Security has been beefed up across Pakistan for Muharram processions being observed on Monday with cellular phone services partially suspended in parts of the major cities to deal with any untoward situation, according to the local media.
All four provinces had recommended to the federal government to direct cellular companies to shut mobile services on 9th and 10th of Muharram as a security precaution. More than 20,000 policemen in uniform and plain clothes and Rangers personnel have been deployed to protect main processions backed by round-the-clock surveillance by over 1,200 closed-circuit television cameras. Security personnel scanned and sealed the areas along the procession route.
All the government hospitals have been put on high alert to deal with any untoward situation.
