Algeria withdraws its ambassador from Iraq

The Algerian Foreign Ministry has withdrawn its ambassador in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, Abdul Qadir bin Shaha, “because of the security situation taking place in the capital, as a precaution procedure and to avoid any undesirable consequences for security developments.”

The Iraqi authorities did not comment on the step of its Algerian counterpart.

The Algerian Foreign Ministry withdrew temporarily its ambassador because of the deteriorating security situation there, and after a year and a half of the return of the Algerian diplomatic representation in Iraq to send an ambassador after years of formal diplomatic representation following the abduction and murder of two Algerian diplomats in 2005.

The decision comes despite the fact that the security situation began to improve, especially after the losses suffered by ISIS organization in areas controlled by them north and west of Iraq
