The signing of the peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali is a “very significant” step made by Algeria in its efforts for the resolution of the conflict in the neighbouring country, said Tuesday in Geneva Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra.
“Actually, all is positive. We have made a very significant step in our efforts to help the (Malian) parties to resolve their problems, while preserving the national unity and the territorial integrity of the country, and promoting the legitimate interests of the population in northern Mali,” Lamamra told the press on the sidelines of the 28th session of the United Nations Human rights Council.
“I believe that we have achieved our objective and the mediation team has managed to help the (Malian) parties in complete transparency and objectivity to discuss the real problems,” he added.
The Foreign minister explained that “when immediate solutions were not available, it has been decided to establish frameworks to enable the parties to continue working directly together with the support of the mediation team, which set up a permanent mechanism, namely the follow-up committee, chaired by Algeria and comprising all the mediation team.
