The EU on Wednesday urged the transitional authorities of Burkina Faso to fast forward with the elections after renegade troops of the Presidential Guard staged a short-lived coup.
“The end of the fighting is an important step towards the normalization of the situation in Burkina Faso,” arms of Foreign Affairs of the European Union said in a statement.
“The first task now is to organize elections as quickly as possible, credible, free and transparent,” he said.
The announcement came several hours after troops raided Burkina barracks of the presidential guard, ending a tense confrontation that had persisted for days after the coup have left their mark.
He said the 28-nation bloc, a major partner in trade and development for the poor West African country, continue to support the transitional government.
Earlier this month, soldiers from the regiment of the powerful presidential guard loyal to former leader Blaise Compaore seized the interim president Michel Kafando and officials as they prepared for the elections October 11.
