Algeria calls on resuming Geneva talks for Syria

lgeria’s Representative to the United Nations Sabri Boukadoum has called, in New York, for the resumption of Geneva negotiations on Syria in order to find a political solution agreed on by Syrians, in a spirit of dialogue and reconciliation.
“We call for the resumption of Geneva negotiation rounds, which would help relieve the suffering, stop the expansion of terrorism and open way to a long-awaited political solution,” Boukadoum said during a briefing on the humanitarian situation in Syria, held at the request of the president of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He also stressed the “crucial importance of a political solution,” which, according to him, “is the only way to end the suffering of Syrian people and the humanitarian crisis.”
“It is up to Syrians to decide, in a spirit of dialogue and national reconciliation, the future they want, with the support of the international community,” he said.
“The continuous destruction of Syria can no longer be ignored,” said Algeria’s representative to the UN.
During the briefing, Boukadoum recalled that despite Algeria has welcomed thousands of Syrian refugees despite being geographically far from Syria.
“The humanitarian crisis in Syria is a difficult duty and a moral and legal obligation,” said Boukadoum, adding that sending humanitarian aid to the Syrian people must be carried out without obstacles, in accordance with the principles of the resolution 46/182 of the UN General Assembly.
