The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, hailed the recent positive developments in Mali, reaffirming AU’s commitment, in close cooperation with Algeria, to assisting the Malian parties in their peace and reconciliation efforts, said the AU in a communiqué on Monday.

Dlamini-Zuma hailed the “recent positive developments in Mali, on the first anniversary of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, which stemmed from Algiers Process,” and welcomed “the signing of a memorandum of understanding, by Malian parties, the Government of Mali and the armed movements, for the establishment of interim authorities and decentralized administration and

services,” said the communiqué.

She underlined that “this significant progress will contribute to accelerate the implementation of the security arrangements and the return of refugees and internally displaced, as provided for in the Peace Agreement.”

Dlamini-Zuma also welcomed the resumption of the works of the Agreement Monitoring Committee, which held its ninth meeting in Bamako last week.
