US assists Iraq with $685m to enhance its navy

The Untied States is to donate USD 685 million to assist Iraq in enhancing its naval forces, US Consul General in Basra Win Dayton announced Wednesday.
The donation will be in the form of equipment, maintenance services for the country’s infrastructure, and joint military exercise with other countries on protecting Iraqi regional borders,
Dayton said in a press conference in Basra.
The US diplomat noted that his country will also work on boosting the current financial donation to Iraq with an additional USD 250 million, which is to be paid later.
Washington has been providing Iraq with military and logistic support to assist it in its war against terrorist groups.
