Vice President Mike Pence met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in New York on Tuesday and discussed the US strategy in South Asia, according to the White House.

During their conversation, Pence highlighted ways Pakistan could work with the US to “bolster stability and prosperity for all in South Asia,” said the statement.

He also reiterated President Donald Trump’s belief that “Pakistan has much to gain from partnering” with the US effort in the region, it said.

Last month, Trump said that Afghanistan and Pakistan have “the highest concentration” of foreign terrorist organizations of any region in the world.

The president stressed that he would “change the approach” to Pakistan and will more effectively reduce terrorist threats in the region.
