Libyan coastguard to be trained in Tunisia

A group of 19 officers and non-commissioned officers of the Libyan coast guard authority are to begin a training course in Tunisia on Saturday, Colonel Tareq Shanbur, the director of security operations on Libya’s coasts and president of the coordination system of Italian-Libyan operations to fight illegal immigration, has said.
The course will last a month and includes an operational phase on board vessels operating under the auspices of the interior ministry of the Libyan government of national accord, Shanbur told the news website “Al Wasat”.
The colonel also said a second group of 22 coast guard officers will receive training in Italy on October 23. The training aims to boost security in Libyan territorial waters and improve knowledge of the basic rules of maritime safety, including search and rescue and counter-trafficking operations.
