PRISTINA, Kosovo, Serbia — Britain is working to get the new resolution on Kosovo, based on UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari’s plan, approved at the UN Security Council, said Anthony Smith, a political director at the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs.He arrived in Pristina on Thursday (June 14th) and assured Kosovo leaders that Britain and its international partners are organising an intensive diplomatic campaign to conclude the status process.
Also Thursday, Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema paid a surprise visit to Pristina, where he met with the Italian troops in KFOR, UNMIK chief Joachim Ruecker and the Kosovo status negotiation team. The talks again focused on Ahtisaari’s blueprint. Friday finds D’Alema in Belgrade for talks with Serbian President Boris Tadic, Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic.
