Kuwait protests assault on diplomat in Iran

KUWAIT CITY (AFP) – Kuwait has strongly protested to Iran over a physical assault on one of its diplomats in Tehran and demanded an apology, the state news agency KUNA reported on Wednesday.
Foreign ministry undersecretary Khaled Al Jarallah summoned Iranian ambassador Ali Jannati on Tuesday and handed him an official protest demanding a probe into the incident, the official news agency KUNA said.
Local newspapers said third secretary Mohammad Al Zubi was stopped just outside the embassy by two cars and was beaten up by a group of men, while the Iranian guards did not interfere.

Zubi was taken to hospital for treatment and Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah ordered a special plane to repatriate the diplomat on Wednesday.

The Kuwaiti cabinet also held an emergency meeting to discuss the attack, whose motive remains unclear.
