Iran, IAEA Agree on How to Conduct N. Talks

A02927467.jpgIran and the UN nuclear watchdog have reached an agreement on how to conduct negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program, and the two sides said that they would continue talks to come up with a final solution. After two days of talks in Tehran, the IAEA and Iran have reached an agreement on how they will resolve the remaining outstanding issues regarding Tehran’s nuclear program.

Iran’s deputy nuclear negotiator says the discussions were constructive and progress has been made.

Javad Vaeedi, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Undersecretary, said, “During three rounds of talks with IAEA delegation headed by Doctor Heinonen, we have crossed over the initial talks and as I said we have agreed on issues regarding the past and present and agreed about a modality plan on how to work and cooperate with IAEA.”

Neither Vaeedi nor Heinonen elaborated on the exact modalities that had been agreed upon.

However, Heinonen hopes all outstanding issues can be tackled in the future.

Olli Heinonen, IAEA deputy director general, said, “We agreed, as he (Vaeedi) said, on four-five steps which will be taken immediately and those are mainly to do with so-called present issues. We will continue our dialogue and discuss those in next few weeks with the remaining of the issues and we are looking for positive contributions from the Iranian side, so that we can finally tackle and resolve all the outstanding issues.”

Meanwhile, members of the UN Security Council are preparing to debate a third set of sanctions against Iran in response to Tehran’s refusal to suspend its uranium enrichment program.
