Jordanian charged over failed UK attack

Prosecutors have charged Jordanian doctor Mohammad Asha with conspiracy to cause explosions over failed car bombings last month, the fourth indictment over the attacks, British police said Thursday.Asha was arrested on the M6 motorway with his wife in the immediate aftermath of the failed attacks in London and Glasgow at the end of June. Seven others were mostly medics.

Three of those arrested — two in Britain and one in Australia — had already been charged over the failed attacks, three others have been released and another is critically ill with burns in hospital.

Iraqi doctor Bilal Abdulla, 27, was remanded in custody earlier this month, charged with conspiracy to cause explosions.

Indian doctor Sabeel Ahmed, 26, appeared in court in London earlier this week charged with withholding information on terrorism.

Australian police have accused Ahmed’s cousin, fellow Indian doctor Mohammad Haneef, 27, of providing “reckless” support to a terrorist organisation, a charge which carries a maximum 15-year penalty.

The charge against Asha alleges that he “unlawfully and maliciously conspired with Bilal Abdulla, Kafeel Ahmed and others unknown to cause explosions of a nature likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property”.
