Belarus Slams US Allegations about Iran’s N. Program

A03075594.jpgBelarusian Foreign Minister Sergey Martynov dismissed the United States’ allegations about concern and opposition of the international community to Iran’s nuclear programs and activities, underlining that the US has no right to speak on behalf of the world countries. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting on ‘Human Rights and Cultural Diversity’ here in Tehran on Tuesday, Martynov further described the recent report on Iran’s nuclear activities by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Mohamed ElBaradei as positive and promising.

He further stated, “Iran is a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), this membership entitles Iran to certain rights and responsibilities.”

“As a member state, Iran should be able to use the NPT’s advantages,” he continued.

The Belarusian top diplomat also opposed referral of Iran’s nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council, stressing that the UNSC action is unjustified.

“We believe that if there is a threat, it should be discussed within the International Atomic Energy Agency,” he continued.
