The strong stances voiced by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his visit to New York thwarted the United States’ attempts to pass a new resolution at the UN Security Council against Iran, a prominent Iranian MP said. Chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaoddin Boroujerdi told FNA here on Sunday that Iran’s successful initiative for launching a new round of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the positive stances stated in the IAEA director general’s report to the Board of Governors as well as Mohamed ElBaradei’s insistence on his stances were among the main factors contributing to the US failure.
“Clarification of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s stances in the nuclear grounds by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in New York and the influence of his statements also made the US fail in its efforts to pass a new resolution against Iran,” the lawmaker added.
