Speaking to reporters during a joint press conference with his Iranian, Turkmen, Kazakh and Russian counterparts here in Tehran on Tuesday, Aliyev described the summit as “much constructive”.

The Azeri president said that the Tehran talks which were dominated by a single spirit of understanding, showed that the littoral states would succeed in specifying the legal regime of the Caspian Sea.

He further viewed endorsement of the final statement by the five heads of state as the most significant issue and achievement of the second summit.

Aliyev also appreciated his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for what he called an ideal arrangement and holding of the summit.

“We are much satisfied with this summit and we hope to have increasing cooperation,” he said.

Elsewhere, the Azeri president voiced pleasure in the endorsement of a trilateral agreement on the construction of a railroad which will link Iran to Kazakhstan via Turkmenistan, and expressed the hope that the railroad would find its way to Russia and Azerbaijan as well.
