Head of Iranian TV Meets Turkish Counterpart

A031190618.jpgPresident of Turkey’s TRT television met with the head of Iran’s state-run TV, Ezzatollah Zarqami, on the sidelines of the 44th general assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) here in Tehran on Sunday. During the meeting, the head of the Turkish broadcaster noted the two countries’ commonalities, and welcomed joint production of TV and radio programs by the two sides.

Ali Gounai further pointed to the abundant grounds existing for regional media cooperation, and said that mutual cooperation can expand Tehran-Ankara friendly ties.

For his part, Ezzatollah Zarqami voiced Tehran’s enthusiasm for expanding relations with the Turkish people, and said that the two countries’ excellent ties provide a good opportunity for raising new ideas to develop mutual ties in all the different areas.

“The two countries of Iran and Turkey enjoy religious and cultural commonalities galore. Hence, Turkish radio and TV networks are expected to avoid broadcasting of unethical programs because such programs…will cause a cultural gap between this country and other Muslim nations in the region,” he said.

Zarqami also said that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Broadcasting (IRIB) was keen to bolster cooperation with the Turkish media if Turkish broadcasters showed more respect for codes of ethics.
