Minister Views US Efforts to Block Iran’s N. Progress as Futile

A031190622.jpgIran’s Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi Tuesday dismissed West’s efforts to prevent Iran’s nuclear progress as useless, stressing that the Iranian nation would not give up even an iota of its rights. “If the US, Israel and other enemies of the Iranian nation could stop Iran through imposing heavy pressures, then they wouldn’t be obliged to change their method and resort to other strategies,” Pour-Mohammadi told a large congregation of the people in front of the former US embassy in Tehran.

He further described West’s threat to impose fresh sanctions and the Untied States unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic as a last ditch effort, which would yield no fruit for the enemies of the Iranian nation.

“From now on, we must seek to restore the other rights of the Iranian nation,” the minister added.

The official further pointed to the implementation of the petrol rationing system in the country last summer, and reminded that the US sought to use Iran’s huge petrol imports as a lever against the Iranian nation, adding that Iran could disarm enemies by launching the rationing system.

He told the crowd that Iran has reduced its petrol imports by 45% since rationing was put into effect.

Ralliers from different parts of Tehran congregated in front of the former US embassy – also known in Iranian history as the “Den of Spies” – to mark this year’s November 4.

The annual rallies and congregations in front of the den of spies aim to commemorate three separate, but crucial, events which all took place on November 4: the take-over of the former US embassy in Tehran by Muslim students following the Imam’s line (1979), the exile of the late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini by the ex-shah (1964) and the declaration of the day as Students Day (in remembrance of several students martyred in 1978 while taking part in a protest rally against the former shah).
