Libyan army calls on displaced people to return Darna

The Libyan eastern-based army on Sunday urged the displaced people of the eastern city of Darna to return after their homes have been secured.
“The commander of the army’s operations chamber, General Abdussalam al-Hassi, called upon all the residents of Darna who were displaced during the military operations to return to their homes after being secured by armed forces,” army spokesman Ahmad Mismari said.
The army, led by General Khalifa Haftar, is launching a military operation to take over Darna from the militants who control the coastal city.
The army has been besieging Darna since 2015, demanding the armed group of the Shura Council of Mujahideen of Darna to leave. The army accuses the group of being loyal to al-Qaida.
The Libyan Red Crescent said on Friday that it evacuated more than 320 families from sites of clashes in Darna.
