The Moroccan Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday the busting of terror cell made up of four suspects and led by a former fighter in Syria and Iraq.

According to a statement from the ministry, the suspects, aged between 33 and 38, were active in the northern city of Taza.

Initial investigations revealed that the leader of the cell, who served a prison sentence in 2015 under the anti-terrorism law, recruited the members of his group and tried to use his fighting experience in Syria and Iraq to plot and carry out terrorist acts against sensitive institutions in Morocco.

The suspects were remanded in custody as part of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor, the same source noted.
