A statement released by the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Bureau said that Asefi expressed regret over the destructive role of the occupiers in the establishment of security in Iraq, stating that the developments which have taken place in the current week are well illustrative of the foreign troops’ ill intentions in that country.

“Instead of establishing security and restoring calm for the Iraqi people, foreign forces are, unfortunately, pursuing their suspicious goals, justifying their presence in Iraq by fomenting undesirable conditions in that country, which they have aggravated through their undue measures and interventions,” he continued.

The diplomat further termed conflicts among the different Iraqi groups a threat to the national solidarity and unity of the Iraqi people.

Stressing the need for the vigilance of the different Iraqi groups and wings at the present sensitive juncture, he said that the Islamic Republic of Iran hopes that the trend of national unity and solidarity is promoted among all Iraqi people and political wings through dialogue and as a result of joint efforts by all such groups and wings.

The Foreign Ministry Spokesman also expressed hope that the atmosphere of cooperation would be created for the sake of the establishment of security, stability and economic prosperity of Iraq as a result of vigilance and reinvigoration of convergence and solidarity.
