Iran’s War Games to Open with Long-Range Missile Launch

A0220188.jpgTEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iran starts staging its extensive maneuvers in the Persian Gulf with the launch of its long-range Shahab series missiles on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Seyed Yahya Rahim Safavi said that the war games to be carried out by the IRGC’s fourfold forces, i.e. IRGC air force, ground force, navy and Basij (mobilized) troops, will last till November 11.

The General cited display of national might and resolve to launch all-out defensive operations against threats, strengthening and exercise of the effective deterrent power of the IRGC against threats as the main goals pursued by the maneuvers.

He said the war games would start with the launching of tens of missiles, including Shahab 2s and 3s with armed warheads and a range of beyond 1000 kilometers and hundreds of rockets and other missiles each with different ranges starting from 150 kilometers.

Safavi also reported of reconnaissance planes, in the form of pilot planes and drones, Sokho 25 fighters, heavy and light transportation and carrier planes such as Antonev and helicopters as among the other war materials and equipment to be used during the maneuvers.

Mentioning that the newly developed technologies and produced military tools and weapons would be tested in the military exercises, he said the extensive war game code named ‘The Great Prophet 2’ is a specialized maneuver to be carried out by tens of thousands of armed forces in the Persian Gulf waters and the Sea of Oman as well as 14 provinces of the country.

Meantime, the IRGC commander-in-chief warned that his troops are fully prepared to launch attacks against any trans-regional forces seeking to endanger Iran’s interests and security.
