Baker Meets Iranian Envoy

A0182760.jpgTEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Former US Secretary of State, James Baker met with Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Mohammad Javad Zarif.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Mohammad Ali Hoseini, the meeting has taken place in the past and centered on the Iraqi issue.

Hoseini also stressed that Zarif has met Baker as the honorary director of one of the departments of the General Politics Institute of a US university which has been conducting research on Iraq’s affairs.

The foreign ministry official stressed that Baker had no official or state responsibility at the time of the meeting, adding, “Mr. Zarif’s meeting with Baker has taken place in the past and centered on Iraq’s issues.”

He also pointed out that such exchanges of views with political experts, analysts and researchers about regional issues are routine and have occurred in the past as well.
