Rafsanjani Meets Singaporean Parliament Speaker

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council, Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani met with the visiting Singaporean parliament speaker here in Tehran on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Rafsanjani stressed that expansion of ties with Asian countries sets a priority for the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy.

Stating that exchange of parliamentary delegations and parliamentary ties by the two countries plays an effective role in the development of Iran-Singapore relations, he mentioned that the two states enjoy high cooperation potentials, which he said must be utilized in a bid to promote the two countries’ trade and economic exchanges.

He further noted Iran’s experiences in economic developments, and describing Singapore as a proper partner for Iran, he expressed the hope that Tehran-Singapore ties would further deepen through identification of potentials by both sides.

The key figure of the Islamic Republic also said that given the diversity of peoples and religions in Singapore, coexistence of Singaporeans sets a good example for those world countries which are facing such problems.

For his part, Singaporean parliament speaker viewed consolidation of ties and efforts to explore new ways of expanding the two countries’ relations as significant, and stressed that Singapore attaches special importance to its ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Also describing Iran’s geographical position in the Middle-East as important, he mentioned, “Considering the recent developments, Singapore has been paying more attention to the Middle-East region in recent years.”

The chief legislative official also underlined that Iran can be a suitable partner for Singapore in the Middle-East region.
