President Condemns Efforts to Undermine Iraqi Gov’t

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a phone conversation with his Iraqi counterpart Jalal Talabani on Wednesday stressed that undermining the popular government of Iraq is synonymous with betraying the Iraqi people and the Muslim Ummah (nation).During the phone talk, Ahmadinejad stated that Iraq can attain stability, security, calm, welfare and progress only through the arduous efforts of that country’s people and popular government, stressing that undermining and blowing the Iraqi government is synonymous with betraying the Iraqi nation and the Islamic Ummah.

Pointing to the new policy of the US President, George W. Bush for undermining the Iraqi government, he reiterated, “Similar to the United States’ previous plans, this one too is doomed to failure. The Iraqi nation will taste security and welfare through the industrious efforts of its government.”

Ahmadinejad further noted the historical and religious ties between the Iranian and Iraqi nations, and voiced Iran’s preparedness to render cooperation to its friend and brother state, Iraq in a bid to help to the progress and welfare of that country.

For his part, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani referred to his successful visit to Syria, and further stressed, “The plots of the enemies of the Iraqi nation will be defused through the assistance and cooperation of Iraq’s neighboring states, and the progress and welfare of the Iraqi nation will be materialized through the efforts of the Iraqi government.”
