Iraqi FM Due in Tehran on Wednesday

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hushyar Zebari is scheduled to arrive in Tehran on Wednesday, the country’s ambassador to Iran said here today.Mohammad Majeed al-Sheikh told FNA that the visit is aimed at providing Iranian officials with some explanations about the upcoming Iraq summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt and inviting Tehran to attend the meeting.

He added that Zebari would discuss bilateral issues during his two-day visit to Tehran as well.

The envoy further described Sharm el-Sheikh meeting as crucially important for Iraq, and expressed the hope that Tehran would attend the meeting, describing Iran as a powerful country in the region and the world.

The conference in Egypt on May 1-4 will be attended by Iraq’s neighboring states plus Egypt, Bahrain and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
