Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad termed strengthening of Iraq’s legal bodies as the only way to safeguard security and integrity of that country, stressing that a secure, independent and powerful Iraq would be the best friend for his country and would serve the interests of regional nations as well. According to a statement released by the Presidential Press Office, Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari here in Tehran on Thursday.
Also during the meeting, the president pointed to the failure of the occupiers in attaining their goals in Iraq, and said they (occupiers) pursue the policy of undermining national and legal sovereignty in Iraq to attain their interests at the present juncture.
He further stated, “While there reside good and low-cost ways for occupiers to escape defeat in Iraq and while they are, today more than ever in the past, in need of the establishment of national and legal sovereignty and government in Iraq, they act as if the Iraqi government needed their presence and assistance.”
Ahmadinejad also reminded the two nations’ abundant historical roots and cultural bonds, and voiced Iran’s full support for the reinvigoration of the popular Iraqi government and parliament as well as other legal bodies in that country, underling that support for the said bodies serves as the only way to protect independence, security and national integrity and solidarity in that country.
“Continued insecurities in Iraq inflict damage on Iran more than other neighboring states,” he underscored.
The president also mentioned that enemies of the Iraqi nation today are in their weakest position ever since occupation of that country, adding that continued insecurities, crimes and massacre of innocent people in Iraq illustrates the feeble stance and weakness of the occupiers in establishing security in that country.
He also stressed that a secure, independent and powerful Iraq would be the best friend for Iran and would serve the interests of the regional nations, and said that winning a glorious future requires solidarity, integrity and resistance of the Iraqi government against enemies of the Iraqi nation.
“Today is the time of vigilance and resistance and Iraqi government should alter the conditions to the benefit of the Iraqi nation,” the Iranian president reminded.
For his part, Hoshyar Zebari praised Iran’s supports for the Iraqi nation and government, and viewed Iran’s role in regional and international equations as significant.
“Iraqi government demands the Islamic Republic of Iran to continue its influential supports and aids to help establish security and prosperity in Iraq,” he underlined.
The top diplomat further pointed to the intensification of terrorist attacks by the enemies of the Iraqi nation, and said, “After all those struggles and sacrifices that the Iraqi nation and government have made for the establishment of their independence and security, they may never give up to the enemies or retreat and that they will safeguard their unity and solidarity.”
Zebari also reiterated Iran’s crucial role in the region, and called for Tehran’s participation in the Iraq security conference in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
