Iran controls 40% of carpet trading in the world, an Iranian official said Tuesday. Head of the trade organization of Iran’s western province of Eastern Azerbaijan, Sadeq Najafi also said that his province contributes a 35-percent share to the country’s carpet exports.
Meantime, he called for an increase in Iran’s carpet exports, and said that more extensive efforts should be made to introduce the Iranian art of carpet weaving to the world.
Noting the efforts launched to introduce Iranian carpet to the world people, Najafi said that a seven-part documentary has recently been produced about the details of the genuine art of carpet weaving in the various parts of Azarbaijan province.
Najafi said that copying Iranian designs by such new rivals as China, Pakistan and India has posed a threat to Iran’s carpet industry.
